Bringing Love Where It Is Needed
In 2020, Tzu Ching launched the Loving Tutorial Program to support children aged 6–12 from Tzu Chi care-recipient families. Classes include language, mathematics, arts and crafts, and character education, helping children with schoolwork while integrating environmental awareness into daily life.
Guided by Master Cheng Yen’s teaching,
“Those who suffer cannot always come out; those who are blessed should go among them,”
the Tzu Ching team established the program in southwest Sydney, meeting monthly at Liverpool Library to accompany children from Vietnamese, Egyptian, Indian, and Filipino families.
Youth Taking Responsibility, Passing On the Light
Many volunteer tutors are education majors—young people filled with sincerity, compassion, and a willingness to serve.
Children often hesitate to leave after class. One young student, Angelleanne, held tightly to a Tzu Ching volunteer’s hand and said,
“I want to take you home.”
Her innocent words reflected the warmth, trust, and sense of belonging nurtured through the program.
Turning Gratitude into Giving
Love Mentoring has impacted not only the children, but their families as well.
Miar, a child from an Egyptian family, shared:
“How can I wear the Tzu Ching uniform too? I want to become a volunteer sister.”
Filipino parent Joy, touched by her children’s growth, expressed:
““I hope my children will grow up to become kind and helpful people like Tzu Ching volunteers.”
From receiving help to aspiring to help others, seeds of compassion have quietly taken root.
Continuing the Legacy of Love
Love Mentoring is more than academic support—it is a living transmission of compassion and wisdom.
May every child grow in love and one day become a Tzu Ching volunteer, carrying forward this spirit of empathy and service,
passing the light onward and illuminating countless lives.

Come join Sydney Tzu Chi’s Love Mentoring volunteering team!
The Love Mentoring Program is a monthly Tzu Ching Youth organised community‑based, long‑term youth development initiative supporting primary and high‑school children from Tzu Chi’s Love Recipient families. The program has three ongoing goals: to build children’s academic confidence, create a network of positive role models and empower future compassionate leaders and Tzu Ching members.
Sessions are held on the fourth week of each month (March–November) from 1:30–3:30pm at Whitlam Library, Cabramatta. Before our sessions, our mentors, mentees and families enjoy a nutritious vegetarian lunch together at the local park so remember to bring your reusable bowls and utensils! Each session consists of academic support and homework assistance, followed by humanistic values education through interactive games and storytelling.
