Tzu Chi Collegiate Youth Association (Tzu Ching) Perth

Youth turning service into action

Tzu Chi Collegiate Youth Association (Tzu Ching)

The origin of Tzu Ching in Perth lies in a group of young people who wanted to give back to society in their own way and also search for direction in life through service. Tzu Ching courses do not only discuss ideals; they also emphasize practice and responsibility: teamwork, understanding Tzu Chi’s missions, life education, and community service are all essential. Over the years, the most valuable outcome of Tzu Ching has not simply been how many activities were held each year, but that young people, at the age when they have the greatest power to act, transform good intentions into sustainable public participation and become the community’s most dynamic force in the cycle of goodness.

In response to COVID-19 this year, after the street-cleaning activity, Tzu Ching specially planned a “trace-free vegetarian picnic,” moving lunch to a well-ventilated park. After careful consideration, the kitchen team prepared rice balls for volunteers to reduce the risk of droplets settling on food. Tzu Ching volunteers also seized the opportunity to promote the ideas of “vegetarian health” and “plastic-free environmental protection” to new volunteers, sharing practical ways to help cool the planet through daily life.
