Growing through service, kindness, and unity

As guided by Dharma Master Cheng Yen, Tzu Ching members are encouraged in three ways: to make good use of their time outside of studies to serve in Tzu Chi, to cultivate a compassionate and caring heart, and to learn how to harmoniously interact with people from all walks of life. The formation of Tzu Ching provides young people with an opportunity to connect with Tzu Chi and to inspire others to join, bringing a fresh and hopeful energy into the Tzu Chi family.

Tzu Ching in Sydney is a group of young individuals who uphold gratitude, respect, and love as their guiding values. They grow through learning and discover the meaning of life through service. Beyond nurturing kindness on campus and promoting Tzu Chi’s humanistic values, they step into the community with humility—caring for the elderly, engaging in environmental protection, participating in disaster relief, and accompanying those in hardship, learning to give and take responsibility through action.

Within, Tzu Ching members cultivate their hearts and character, learning to work in harmony, live in unity, and care for one another—growing by letting go of the ego and contributing to the collective. Outwardly, they channel youthful energy and goodwill into compassionate action, bringing love into the community. The path of Tzu Ching is not

only one of volunteering, but a journey of personal growth, service to others, and the continuation of goodness.

In Sydney, Tzu Ching members seize every opportunity to step into the community and serve others. Youth is not only about acquiring knowledge, but about discovering life’s meaning through action. Whether supporting large-scale Tzu Chi events, performing drum ceremonies, presenting sign language sutra adaptations, or sharing messages through drama, Tzu Ching expresses Tzu Chi’s humanistic values in diverse and meaningful ways.

In their daily lives, they grow together through camps, gatherings, and outdoor activities—building teamwork and responsibility in a supportive environment. They also participate in beach and street clean-ups, taking action to care for the environment and protect the Earth.

Through tutoring and care programmes, they pass on kindness to younger generations, accompanying children as they grow. They also regularly visit aged care homes, offering companionship and warmth through simple greetings and sincere presence.

These activities are more than participation—they are a form of practice. Through giving, they learn humility; through serving, they cultivate gratitude. In this field of blessings, young hearts continue to grow, becoming a force that can take responsibility, give selflessly, and carry love forward.

It is hoped that every young person can nurture a broad heart, a gentle spirit, and a steadfast aspiration within this field of blessings, becoming a seed of goodness in both campus and society, allowing love and hope to continue growing and spreading.
