Food Distribution
In 2001, to live out the spirit of Tzu Chi’s humanistic values, volunteers, after thoughtful discussion, resolved to rent a venue in Nerang from the Gold Coast City Council and began regular food distributions every Monday. In the early days, few people were aware of this effort. Volunteers personally carried flyers into underserved communities, going door to door to share care and extend heartfelt invitations. As time went by, more and more families came to receive support.
Through years of unwavering dedication, this humble act of giving has brought warmth and relief to countless households, while also touching the hearts of the local government. The initiative gained recognition and support, with even the mayor taking part in person—creating wholesome affinities that later paved the way for the application of land for a Jing Si Hall. Among those once cared for, many were inspired to give back and became Tzu Chi volunteers themselves, embodying the cycle of love and gratitude. This effort continues to this day (2026) without interruption, now held regularly on the second Monday of each month.
On September 2, 2012, Tzu Chi volunteers traveled to Brassall Shopping Centre in Ipswich to carry out the first food distribution in the area. Two events were held that year; from 2013 onward, it was held four times annually, continuing to accompany and care for local families in need. In June 2025, the final distribution was held at Ipswich State High School, bringing this chapter to a temporary close as conditions came to completion.
