Tzu Chi Chinese Academy
Learning Chinese, embracing culture, and growing with kindness.
Learn more than a language
At Tzu Chi Chinese Academy, learning Chinese is about much more than developing language skills. It is an opportunity for children to connect with their cultural heritage, build confidence, and develop values that will guide them throughout life.
Established in Australia in 1998, Tzu Chi Chinese Academy provides a welcoming environment where students learn Mandarin while gaining a deeper appreciation of Chinese culture, respect for others, and the importance of kindness in everyday life.
Today, our academies continue to serve families in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, supporting students as they grow into confident, compassionate, and responsible members of the community.

Our approach to learning
We believe that education should nurture both the mind and the heart.
Alongside Chinese language instruction, students are encouraged to develop qualities such as gratitude, respect, empathy, and responsibility. These values are inspired by Tzu Chi's educational philosophy and the timeless wisdom found in Jing Si Aphorisms, which encourage thoughtful living and good character.
Our lessons are designed to create an engaging learning experience where students can:

Build confidence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing Chinese

Develop an appreciation of Chinese traditions and cultural heritage

Learn values such as kindness, respect, gratitude, and filial piety

Build friendships within a supportive learning community

Discover how small acts of kindness can make a positive difference

Learning beyond the classroom
Education extends beyond textbooks.
Students have opportunities to participate in cultural celebrations, environmental activities, community service, and charitable initiatives that encourage them to put compassion into practice.
These experiences help children understand that learning is not only about academic achievement but also about becoming caring and responsible individuals.
By connecting language with culture, family values, and community involvement, students develop a stronger sense of identity while learning to appreciate different perspectives and cultures.
Supporting families on the
learning journey
Learning Chinese in an English-speaking country can be both rewarding and challenging.
Children thrive when families and teachers work together. Speaking Chinese at home, creating enjoyable opportunities to use the language, and participating in regular classes all help build confidence and fluency over time.
At Tzu Chi Chinese Academy, we work alongside parents to create a positive and encouraging environment where children enjoy learning and feel proud of their language and cultural heritage.
