Volunteer Training Program

Learning, serving, and growing with compassion

The Buddha-Dharma is wisdom for everyday life, and Tzu Chi is a spiritual path that puts the teachings into practice in daily living. Through participation in the Tzu Chi Commissioners and Tzu Cheng training program, trainees come to understand Tzu Chi’s Four Missions and Eight Footprints, as well as the spirit of giving without expectation, regret, or complaint. Under the guidance of Dharma Master Cheng Yen, participants learn to cultivate their character, develop wisdom in daily life, and reflect upon the value and meaning of life.

Tzu Chi’s mission is to relieve suffering and purify human hearts; however, this mission depends on people. Among the global population of over seven billion, Tzu Chi volunteers still represent only a small proportion. Therefore, Tzu Chi sincerely invites you to join us in contributing to goodness and improving the world, transforming what is often said to be “too late” into “still in time.”

Expanding the number of people committed to doing good is currently a key direction for Tzu Chi. The power of goodness must outweigh negativity in order to transform this challenging world in time.

Volunteer Training Program - Learning, serving, and growing with compassion

As taught by Dharma Master Cheng Yen, Tzu Chi volunteers serve all beings with great love and inclusiveness. After registering as a trainee, members are encouraged to engage in hands-on service. Through direct contact with those who are suffering and experiencing hardship, trainees cultivate compassion and resilience. Those who remain steadfast without retreating may proceed to the next stage of training. During this process, participants further deepen both inner cultivation and outward practice—caring inwardly and serving outwardly, and extending equal love and respect to family members, fellow practitioners, and even strangers in need.
